The Challenges of OWH VCMP 2013

Well, I finished up the Challenge cards.

My total before on early Sun. afternoon was:

Challenge #1 - 12 cards
Challenge #2 - 0 card
Challenge #3 - 0 card
Challenge #4 - 12 cards
Challenge #5 - 12 cards
Challenge #6 - 21 cards
Challenge #7 - 2 designs x 12 cards = 24 cards

So late Sun. afternoon and Mon night,  I finished #2 with the moon and owl card and I did a second card with tigers and tiger stripes. It says "It's your Birthday. Walk on the Wild Side". Can that work as a kid's Card?
I didn't figure out Challenge #3. It is a technique that I need to learn but not enough time this go-around,

SO........the final count (if I can add properly) is:

Challenge #1 - 12 cards
Challenge #2 - 20 cards Moon+owl done +
15 tiger cards.
Challenge #3 - 0 card
Challenge #4 - 12 cards
Challenge #5 - 12 cards

OWH VCMP 2013 Challenge #2

Slowly, I am finishing the OWH VCMP 2013 Challenges. This one is Challenge #2.

Challenge 2:  My theme is 'All Creatures Great and Small; Cards for Kids!'
http://deliteful-gifts.blogspot.com/2013/02/owh-vcmp-all-creatures-great-and-small.html

I had the little owls in the stickers/embellishments drawer for a while. I got them on clearance at Michael's. I cut the moon and the branch on my Cricut. The paper is from Tuesday Morning or Big Lots because it is a package of 25 sheets. I love the foil stars! I used a marker to highlight the moon's face. I printed the sentiments on my computer and matted them on  little bits of scraps. I think the card turned out cute and I hope a kiddo likes the owl's googly eyes. Hopefully, you agree. I think I have 15 of this card. I ran out of owls or I would have a few more. 106 was the previous total so 106 + 15 = 111 cards for the weekend.

One more Challenge to go for the OWH VCMP 2013. Still puzzling about it. Maybe I can work on it tomorrow.

OWH VCMP 2013 Challenge #9

Challenge #9 is a bit of a hard challenge. I use white on my cards for accent or for the sentiments but to create an all white card. Yikes! It is a scary thought for me. I mean, I'm the kind of person who can't wear white clothes as something always happens to the wonderful white. You know, red spaghetti sauce down the front of the new white blouse or the only mud puddle in the parking lot and, yep, you walk through and spatter mud on the new white pants. So, to complete an all white card with layers could be a card making nightmare. I cleaned off the table and started with clean mats on the table. I put all the ink pads away and all the glittery ribbon left over from the 3-4 Valentine's cards I had created.

Challenge 9: My theme for today is All White/Cream with 3 Layers. The challenge:   Create a card using white and/or cream card stock with the exception of the sentiment.  The sentiment (if you choose to have one) may be any color.  Also there should be layers -- at least three (3) layers of something, i.e. any combo of card stock, lace, ribbon, fabric, or some sort of fiber for texture and interest.  Any embellishment must be white or cream.
http://desertroseoutpost.blogspot.com/2013/02/owh-presidents-day-virtual-card-making.html

OK, the challenge is accepted. I have the bits and pieces cut for the 12 cards but here's the first one.

I embossed the first layer of white paper, using the Wicker Weave folder in my Cuttlebug. I told you that  little Cuttlebug got a lot of use the other night at Archiver's on Friday night. I had gotten just the Wicker Weave embossing done at Archiver's. I finished the card today when I am playing in my scrapbook room while the hubby watched the race.  I layered the cut pieces of paper from Making Memories's doily 12x12 paper on top of the embossed paper. Then I added a scalloped rectangle with a sentiment using VersaMark Dazzle and silver embossing powder and using pop dots on the scalloped piece. The sentiment is from a wedding stamp set by Inkadinkado I found on clearance at Joann's. This sentiment I used was covered up by a tag so at first I didn't realize the Happy Anniversary was even in the set.  The silver and white flowers are from the recent stop at Pat Catan's. I wish I had gotten more of the flowers but you know how it is. I used some white ruffly ribbon from my ribbon storage and, ta da, I did it. A white card! No mishaps!!

I don't have enough of this ribbon and lace ribbon for all 12 cards. Some of them will have a butterfly lacey ribbon on them. I do hope the silver on the flowers won't disqualify my card from the all white with layers challenge but the plain one flowers I have are too big for this card.

I have 2 more challenges to do for the OWH VCMP 2013. I have paper cut for the second challenge and I'm not sure how to do Challenge #3 so that one will take some time. I have made:

Challenge #1 - 12 cards
Challenge #2 - 0 card
Challenge #3 - 0 card
Challenge #4 - 12 cards
Challenge #5 - 12 cards
Challenge #6 - 21 cards
Challenge #7 - 2 designs x12 cards = 24 cards
Challenge #8 - 12 cards
Challenge #9 - 1 card + 11 pieces for 11 more
Challenge #10 - 12 cards

Total cards so far for OWH VCMP 2013= 106 cards.

I am getting close to my goal of 10 challenges with 12 cards per challenge but the clock is ticking loudly. Gotta go and make more cards!! Later.

Thanks for stopping by.

OWH VCMP 2013 Challenge #10

Challenge #10 was another harder one for me. I have just gotten to the point of adding bling to my scrapbook pages, thanks to bling-loving Table 7 friends. To put glitz and glam on a card was a bit harder. Sure, I have added gems and jeweled flowers to cards but the thought of making a truly glitzy and glam-y card kinda scared me.

Challenge 10: My challenge for you is: Glitz and Glam Without Glitter. Make a glamorous card that is glitter-safe for our heroes.   http://104cards.blogspot.com/2013/02/owhs-presidents-day-virtual-cardmaking.html

I started with DCWV Green Tea stack as it has shiny, foil papers that I loved. I used two foiled papers from the stack for my card to make my card - a floral and a striped paper. I used a Valentine stamp from Michael's dollar bins for the sentiment but the sentiment is more of an everyday theme than a Valentine one. I haven't added the Diamond Glaze to the hearts yet but that is the plan when I clean off my work table to have some room to lay the 12 cards. I added a bit of shiny gold ribbon across the bottom and some jewels across the top of the matted sentiment. Not quite as glitz and glam-y as it should be but I like its slightly under-glitzed style.

OWH VCMP 2013 Challenge #8

Washi tape. Can't say it but I have a bunch of it! I like it and I can prove it. See photo below!!

I really believe that I have more but the other rolls seem hiding at the moment (or the washi tape stash is organized as in "well-hidden from hubby". I "received" the We R Memory Keepers Washi Tape Dispenser for Christmas. "Received" as in it was on my Christmas list and hubby couldn't find it so it jumped in my hands to meet my coupon at Archiver's after Christmas. wink, wink. Of course, I purchased a few rolls of Christmas tape at the after-Christmas clearance sales. The poor dispenser is really under all of the rolls, really! The We R Memory Keepers Washi Tape Dispenser should be stackable so I can keep the the Christmas rolls in one and have another level with the everyday ones.

We R Memory Keepers Washi Tape Dispenser
OK, enough chatter about the washi tape dispenser. I almost forgot why I am talking about washi tape.
The Challenge by Indiana Inking!!

Challenge 8:  My challenge for you is to use Washi Tape on your cards.
 http://indianainking.blogspot.com/2013/02/vcmp-challenge-8-washi-tape.html

When I started to create the card for the Challenge #8, I didn't have the washi tape with me at Archiver's. So, of course, I had to buy some washi tape to complete the Challenge. Right?? I had had my eye on some washi tape at Archiver's for a few weeks  but I had been talking myself out of the purchase. So I finally bought 2 My Mind's Eye tubes of washi tape that had 8 rolls of 8 different designs. I bought the blue and green set and the gold and black set. Well, I needed the tape for the Challenge #8 and you get 20% off your purchases during ScrapMania, so I had to get both tubes since I couldn't decide which colors I liked best. Yes, it was a tough choice and I did leave the other 2 color combo there for now.

To complete this Challenge, I used a yellow piece from the DCWV Green Tea stack and pretty much used Indiana Inking's card for my card. The paper had a very fine grid of white on it on the yellow but you can't see that in the photo. I added the gold and black washi tape by My Mind's Eye to the paper. I ran the paper with the tape on it through the Cuttlebug. (Little Cuttlebug got a workout on Friday night!) The folder is a newer one called Baby's Breath. I really need to take little Cuttlebug to Table 7 more often as it was quite helpful and fun to use it the other night. I stamped the sentiment from a Fiskars set  (clearanced at Joann's a few weeks ago) in brown. I was having a hard time with the stamp. It didn't want to stamp clearly in the middle. I tried different ink pads/colors, trying to find a juicier pad to better cover the stamp. I tried stamping the sentiment on the paper stack to give it a bit of softness to press better. Still I had trouble with the stamp not stamping completely. I finally distressed the stamped sentiment so the misstamping wasn't as noticeable.  I punched a few hearts and added to the card. I did have a bit of trouble with one roll of washi tape as I took it off the roll, it would rip. I used 4 different rolls and only 1 roll kept tearing when I didn't want it too. The rips in the tape don't show up on the cards because of the embossing.

I wonder if Indiana Inking will notice that my card happened to be gold and black.
Yes, those are Purdue's colors. Not that the card is just for Purdue fans but just because I liked the color combo by My Mind's Eye. The Table 7 girls cheer for Ohio State University, whose colors are scarlet and grey. Oops, I didn't buy any of that color. : )

Thanks for stopping by. I have to finish 2 more Challenges before the Purdue game starts tonight and before the Feb. 25th deadline for Challenges comes. Later!

OWH VCMP 2013 Challenge #7 and Sketch #159

I actually have 2 coffee cards for this Challenge and I don't even like coffee!

Challenge 7: What better challenge for first thing in the morning then a caffeine challenge? So, find your stamps or dies related to coffee, tea, soda, or chocolate and get crafty!
http://sparklewithin.blogspot.com/2013/02/owh-vcmp-caffeine-challenge_3834.html

My first card is one I had finished using sketch #159 and I had forgotten about it. The poor card never got its own post. : (

I had embossed the brown cardstock with my Cuttlebug and then the pieces sat on my shelves for a bit. I thought they looked like coffee cup rings so I used it on this card. The little cup, beans, and sentiment are from a small stamp set but I don't remember the maker. The steam is actually a separate stamp too. I stamped the cup in the aqua-y blue and then ran the same color over the embossing. I probably should have used a darker brown but I liked the blue color on the cup. A bit of twine of blue and white at the bottom completes the sketch. I should have stamped the sentiment on another piece of paper and then mounted it so my card followed the sketch a bit closer. But the piece of paper I used for the cup and sentiment was precut paper and I didn't want to mess with it.

My second coffee card is not from an OWH sketch but I just made it up while I was at Archiver's on Friday night with Table 7. I loved the shiny diamonds on the paper from DCWV Green Tea stack and I had the cup with the diamonds so I used a square and turned it for a diamond. I matted the cup on green and blue to compliment the DCVW paper. The green is that blingy, shiny paper but it is difficult to really see the foiled paper in the photo. The stamp set by TPC Studio was a bargain at Tuesday Morning from a shopping trip end of last year. I stamped the cup in lime ink and used a blue marker to color the diamonds on the cup. I stamped the sentiment in VersaMark's majestic blue and matted it on the green paper but on the plain side. I thought about adding some other embellishments but the paper has  shiny bits to it so I didn't add anything else to the card.

Thanks for stopping by. I have a few more Challenges from the OWH VCMP 2013 to post.

OWH VCMP 2013 Challenge # 6

Challenge #6 is things with wheels. I had 2 cute papers with trucks on it that I had originally thought I would use for this Challenge. Then I had got to Tuesday Morning and found a bunch of Graphic 45 paper. Tuesday Morning usually has packages of 25 sheets of paper for sale and it is not unusual to find Graphic 45 paper there. The 25 sheet-packages have gone up in price lately but still a good deal as the paper is about 16 cents/ sheet. I usually share the 25 sheets with Table 7 or make a lot of cards. The Graphic 45 paper is nice weight and double-sided, which is why I had to buy 5 packages of this paper line Le Cirque Collection. They had flowers for sale too and I can always use flowers, right??

To get back to the Challenge!!
Challenge 6:  "Things With Wheels".  My card (loosely based upon OWH Sketch 153)
 http://linda-creepinalong.blogspot.com/2013/02/owh-presidents-day-vcmp-things-with.html

My card used paper from 3 of the packages I purchased and I used both sides of 1 paper. The elephants on wheels has red striped on the back, the circus stamps has the green stars on the back which I used a bit of the stars as a border, and the print paper has circus ads on the back. I loved the stars and plan to use it again for a kid birthday card. If you notice in the Challenge on CreepinAlong's blog, she used a different sketch than I did. I used Sketch#72 from the OWH list, one I haven't used before. I used two strips of 2 circus stamps for the 2 strips in the sketch #72. I left enough of the black edging on the stamps so I didn't mat the strips before mounting them. Archiver's used EK Success 3 tickets punch for the prize drawings. I used the little punch above the ticket size to stamp the one word sentiment. Actually, I punched the tickets for the night and they let keep the little ones because you can't punch just the large ticket one by itself. I added a few Making Memories star brads (from Ollie's Bargain Store) on the stamps. I was proud of myself that I found my cool tool - a paper piercer- to make the holes for the brads. The great tool is the one that retracts so you don't poke yourself while you are looking for it.  : )  My friend Linnea gave it to me at Table 7 one day.

Thanks for stopping by. More later.

OWH VCMP 2013 Challenge #5

I loved this Challenge #5 as for me, it was easy!! I usually make multiples of my cards so I can send some to OWH and keep some! And the Challenge had a sketch for me to use and it was an economical one too. I cut the 6 cards and could use the strip leftover on the cards too. And I hadn't done this sketch #63 yet so I could check it off my list of OWH Sketches to do.

Challenge 5: So my challenge for this VCMP is to take OWH sketch #63:

and use one entire piece of 12x12 paper. You should get a minimum of six A2 cards from one 12x12. http://thecrookedstamper.blogspot.com/2013/02/disappearing-act-with-sketch-63.html

I had purchased a bunch of paper at Tuesday Morning the other day. It was all from Graphic 45 and I got 25 sheets per package so I'll be using it a lot. I loved this blue paper Extravaganza from Graphic 45's Le Cirque Collection. It sorta doesn't go with the rest of the Le Cirque papers which are elephants, clowns, and such but the collection is fun vintage.

I cut 6 bases and then cut the strips for the bases. Unfortunately I cut the 2 sheets (for 12 cards) differently which I didn't notice till I was adding the striped strips to the bases. One strip is horizontal and the other is vertical. I cut the scallop of some sheets of doily-like paper. I had typed the sentiment on my computer for a different card about a year so I thought I could use it again on this mostly blue card. I added a few jeweled flowers of various blues and whites to complete the sketch.

Thanks for stopping by. I have a few more Challenge cards to post so see you soon.

OWH VCMP 2013 Challenge #4

I was working hard on the Challenges for the OWH VCMP 2013 on Friday night at Archiver's. I had so more choices for this Challenge that the hard part was narrowing down the choices.

Challenge 4:  Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to create a card featuring something with wings! There are lots of possibilities there.   http://penguinpapers.net/2013/02/16/presidents-day-vcmp-things-with-wings/

I had purchased the butterflies at Pat Catan's (formerly Crafts 2000) on my way home from my visit with my sister in Indiana. Then I found the washi tape at Pat's too and this card was meant to be. I didn't use a sketch for this card; just kinda made it up.

I started with the yellow and the green cardstock paper I used a bit of  on the Chevron cards. The cardstock was on sale at Archiver's last weekend and some came from my stash. When I ran out of the pieces big enough for the bases, I used some dotted swiss purple cardstock. One set of butterfly stickers was metallic and had pop-dots on them and the other set was just plain stickers. I used the hearts that came with the first set on the cards and jeweled flowers on the plain butterfly cards. The little sentiment "Many Thanks" is from Paper Smooches.

Yep, there are 12 of these cards. The bases change colors but all have the same sentiment.

Thanks for stopping by. I have a few more Challenges to post so see you later.

OWH Virtual Card Making Party Challenge #1

I was visiting my sister when OWH had Virtual Card Making Party (VCMP) was going on so I didn't have a chance to make any cards that weekend. And it was crazy this week so I had to wait till Friday night at Table 7 to make the Challenge cards. I had a lofty goal of making 10 cards for each of the 10 challenges but I couldn't complete that goal. I did get 6 of the 10 Challenges done that night and 12 cards for each challenges to boot!

I'm finally posting the cards today. My hubby had a birthday yesterday so we celebrated with dinner out. So no time for cardmaking yesterday.

I copied a description of each Challenge to a word document for the evening at Table 7 and I'll add that description to each card Challenge's post.

Challenge 1: My challenge for you is to make cards using Zig Zag elements (or more properly known as Chevrons).  There's many ways to spice up your cards with chevrons  - Stamps, Scissors, Rulers, or even Paper.   http://scrappinintervention.blogspot.com/2013/02/zig-zag-your-cards.html

This first Challenge was using Chevrons, which I don't use a lot, so I wasn't sure what I would come up with. After wandering around Archiver's for a bit and looking at some of the new items from the latest CHA, I purchased one sheet of Doodlebug's Take Note Chevron paper and the little stickers too.

The paper was double-sided so I used the strip left over from cutting my 6 bases to put the sticker on. I cut out cupcakes from some paper I purchased at Michael's. I added a few jewels. I used different stickers on the cards so a couple say "Thinking of you" and Heart You.

Later in the evening, I won a prize at Archiver's and the prize was 5 sheets of paper, a package of jewels, a roll of washi tape and a pad of album insets of the new Doodlebug line Take Note!! So I was able to make 12 of the cards!

My Prize from Archiver's ScrapMania on Friday night!

Thanks for stopping by today. I'll be posting more of my Challenge cards soon.

Wed. night crafting

Sketch #94

Wednesday nights is baking night for Treat Thursdays at school and I finished the treat early. I baked blueberry muffins!  I had time to make a sketch and I picked #94 to create.

I used papers from DCWV Flower Shower stack and a a sheet of yellow with white dots by Making Memories. The little squares were cut from the DCWV paper and pop-dotted. The sentiment was from the coordinating sticker set of the stack. I added a bit of ribbon and a bow. And it's done. I crafted a dozen like this and have 6 more to finish up. I did a few with the yellow as the base and the striped paper as the strip near the bottom.

Sketch #149

I'm still catching up on some of the latest sketches. The holidays were busy and I missed a couple of sketches on the Sundays.

Here's Sketch #149.

School was crazy today as Mondays tend to be but today was a bit crazier than usual. It must have been the winter storm that started about 2:00 pm. I needed some time in the scrapbook room tonight.

I found this sketch and thought I could do it. Here's 2 cards I made out of about 12. I opened the scrap bin and used whatever I found and that matched with other bits. I used the stack of sticky-backed flowers for the circle and added a small sentiment from Paper Smooches and a bit of ribbon. I followed the sketch pretty closely except for the flower instead of a circle. It seems to need something else but
I think I'll be done with them.

Here's to hoping for a snow day tomorrow!

Sunday afternoon

Sketch # 158

I checked out the new Sketch on OWH's website and decided to get to it this afternoon. It looked fun and easy. And I needed some to do in my scrapbook room while hubby hammered, sawed, and drilled at the window sills. We got our new windows installed this week. Hubby wanted to finish a couple of the sills himself instead of the installers doing them. The new windows look great!

On to Sketch #158!

I had been organizing some items and found some Cricut cuts I had made a while ago and hadn't used yet. The OWH blog skip this weekend was Cards with Critters in honor of Groundhog Day. I had some critters to use and found some critter papers.

The first one is kitty paper. I had bought a package of 25 sheets at Tuesday Morning or Big Lots for a project at school and hadn't used all the paper yet. The Cat Chatter was doublesided so I used the dark back for the small rectangle and cut lime cardstock for the 2 1/4" square. I used some of the lime paper for the 1/4" strip. I had a sentiment - Have a purrrrfect day! - for a few cards but then I just put Hello on them. I added some bling and twine. I had some flowers in a stack and they were sticky-backed. Not sure where I got them but they worked on the cards for the 2 embellishments on the sketch. The cat was cut on my Cricut awhile ago and I drew its face.

OK, it seemed only fair to make some dog cards too. All three papers ( maroon, dog treats, and striped dog words)  used on this card are Making Memories papers from  the stash with a few scraps for the Hello sentiment. I didn't add a 1/4" strip to this card since it had stripes on it already. I added dog bones brads and a bit of ribbon and again drew the facial features on the dog, from a Cricut cart awhile back.

I finished the adding  of the card to the base and the drawing of the faces during the Super Bowl game. The second half of the game was pretty good after the added excitement of a 35 minutes delay. So I got 50 cards done today, with most of the cards going in OWH box.

Another fun Sketch done and checked off my list.
